SUMMARY:Travel Fellowship Presentations
DESCRIPTION:Join the AD EX to hear from Caleb Mancillas and Kyle Dickens\, recipients of the Travel Fellowship programs\, as they present discoveries from their travels and research. \nThis event showcases two fellowship-supported research projects that explore how architecture is shaped by our relationship with place\, whether through the spiritual connection between landscape and built form or through the body’s direct experience of terrain and movement. \nKyle Dickens\, Bill Millsap Art of Landscape Architecture Travel Fellow\, examines the relationship between landscape\, spirituality\, and architecture in Bhutan. Through trekking\, photography\, sketches\, and video documentation\, he explores how Buddhist traditions shape sacred environments where temples\, monasteries\, and natural features become deeply interconnected expressions of cultural and spiritual identity. \nCaleb Mancillas\, Mary Kolb Berglund Travel Fellow\, investigates how architecture emerges from direct engagement with the ground and the experience of place. Through his exploration of Santiago\, Chile\, and the Andes Mountains\, he studies walking as a method of observation and discovery\, examining how movement\, terrain\, and human perception can reveal new ways of understanding site and architectural design.
