DESCRIPTION:This is a closed event limited to our 2026 ELP Graduates and their guests. \nThe Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) identifies\, cultivates and mentors young leaders in three areas of leadership: the firm\, the profession and our community. Going into its 17th year\, the Emerging Leaders Program boasts more than 250 graduates and draws rave reviews through its curriculum that combines leadership discussions\, class-developed panels\, and class projects benefiting the greater community. SUMMARY:Architecture Matters: Building in the Material World (Shipley Architects) and TxA President-Elect Visit
DESCRIPTION:FREE for AIA Dallas & Allied Members\, $30 General Admission \nArchitecture Matters is an engaging and informative design lecture series that is free for all AIA Dallas and Northeast Texas members. Join us for a thought-provoking lecture by Dan Shipley\, FAIA exploring the creativity\, craftsmanship\, and design thinking behind his architecture. His work is known for its inventive use of materials\, attention to detail\, and thoughtful response to people and place. The event will also include a visit from TxA President-elect visit\, Stephi Motal\, AIA. \n  \n  \nBuilding in the Material World\nAt Shipley Architects\, materials and construction drive the design. For many projects\, materials and construction ARE the design. In this presentation Dan Shipley\, FAIA will highlight projects that follow this philosophy\, from their conception to the means and methods of their construction. Dan will also explore the design benefits of understanding fabrication processes of commonly used materials (like steel\, stone\, sheet metal\, millwork\, etc.) and anticipating actual jobsite conditions to improve both the design and usability of drawings. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nParticipants will explore the benefits of understanding various material fabrication processes for both higher quality detailing and the overall design of a project.\nParticipants will analyze how real jobsite conditions influence the readability and usability of drawings by contractors and subcontractors during construction.\nParticipants will examine how workforce and budget constraints influence the outcome of a project and how to these factors could be anticipated and reflected in the construction documents.\nParticipants will consider the benefits of the developer-architect and the role’s potential for higher quality outcomes.\n\nThis course has been approved for 1.0 LU by AIA CES
