SUMMARY:Republic National Bank Building Tour
DESCRIPTION:Organized by the Historic Resources Committee\nFree for AIA Members\, $30 General Admission\n2.0 LUs  \nNow known as Republic Center\, the Republic National Bank Building carries a legacy rich in architectural history. The building was designed by Harrison and Abramovitz with Gill & Harrell\, with additions made by Harrell & Hamilton/OMNIPLAN. Completed in 1954\, it was the first major office building to be completed after World War II in downtown Dallas. At 602 feet in height (including the spire)\, the building was 53 feet taller than its closest competitor and was distinguished as the “tallest building in Dallas” and “tallest west of the Mississippi River.” \nJoin us for a tour of the Republic Center\, with guides that will highlight original historic materials and spaces\, and details that make the building an iconic architectural landmark still today. \nRepublic Bank Building has received the following awards and distinctions: \n\n1977 Merit Award\, Texas Society of Architects\n1981 Citation Award\, AIA Dallas\n1993 25-Year Award\, AIA Dallas\n2004\, designated as a Dallas Landmark\n2005\, listed in the National Register of Historic Places\n2023 Architectural Landmark Award\, Texas Society of Architects\n2024 Historic Architecture Award\, AIA Dallas

SUMMARY:Speaking the Same Language: The Common Materials Framework
DESCRIPTION:Part of the Architecture Matters Professional Development Series \nPresented by Existing Conditions\, Organized by the Committee on the Environment \n1.0 HSW \nHow do we speak about and evaluate the sustainable attributes of building materials? The current model is a mix of ideas and goals regarding the definition of a sustainable material. Sustainable material certifications have become difficult to navigate. Confusion rules the market as architects and manufacturers attempt to answer all the questions and goals of the various approaches to sustainability. \nWhen the AIA launched the A&D Materials Pledge\, a common language was laid out with common goals regarding human health\, social health & equity\, ecosystem health\, climate health\, and circular economy. The Common Materials Framework\, further outlined by mindfulMaterials\, is the structure for this language\, helping to define the impact of materials. This common framework will help the industry to measure progress and accomplishments; consistency is key. \nLunch will be served to all pre-registered attendees. Republic Center Valet Parking will be validated for this event. Arrive early for parking and lunch so the program can begin right at noon.

SUMMARY:ESG & Architecture: Connecting Project Performance to Capital Markets
DESCRIPTION:1.0 HSW requested \nEnvironmental\, social\, and corporate governance (ESG) initiatives have grown to have a significant impact on the investment community that provides funding and insurance for both private and public development. However\, a clear strategy that links global corporate sustainability targets and the daily decision-making that shapes individual architectural projects remains opaque. What are the key drivers in ESG reports that currently are or will impact new developments and existing assets? This session will help practitioners unpack ESG and understand those connections and how they relate to progress in sustainability writ large. \nThe evening will begin with happy hour and networking. \nThis event is part of the AIA Dallas Professional Development Series\, presented by Existing Conditions.
