SUMMARY:Designing My Future K-12 Camps\, Ages 14-18
DESCRIPTION:Designing My Future K-12 Camps are a hands-on program that introduces students ages 6–18 to the world of architecture and design. Launched in 2020 by practicing architects in collaboration with K-12 and nonprofit educators\, these camps foster creative thinking\, enhance problem-solving skills\, and explore fundamental design principles while providing insight into careers in architecture\, engineering\, and construction. \nEach camp is a unique experience where students engage with architectural concepts\, connect with architecture students and professionals\, and gain inspiration to envision a future in the field. Campers learn the basics of design thinking and apply their creativity to real-world projects. They tour downtown landmarks\, visit local architecture firms\, and discover the people and ideas behind the built environment. Through activities like scavenger hunts\, design challenges\, 3D modeling\, and skyscraper-building projects\, students develop skills that extend far beyond the camp itself. \nBeyond technical learning\, Designing My Future Camps help students build confidence in self-expression through writing\, drawing\, public speaking\, and play. By tackling creative challenges and collaborating with peers\, participants develop essential skills that will serve them in any future career. Whether experimenting with design principles or working on hands-on construction projects\, students leave camp with a deeper understanding of architecture and its impact on the world around them.

SUMMARY:COTE: Water Without Rain
DESCRIPTION:The Committee on the Environment (COTE) is a knowledge-based committee that educates and advocates for built environments that promote a healthy\, sustainable\, and equitable future for all communities and natural environments in North Texas. \nBalancing aesthetics with function\, Water Without Rain reimagines how installations can interact with the world. Located in the University of Texas at Arlington\, it transforms a structure to a dynamic system\, that engages the senses while efficiently capturing water. Inspired from the adaptive functions of the bluebonnet\, we extracted from the plant’s xylem and stoma to shape performance. Bamboo serves as the primary structural framework\, while custom PETG nodes enable precise connections and structural flexibility. \nThis program explores the potential of bamboo as a catalyst for sustainable design\, illustrating how unique properties can transform the way material is approached as not only aesthetics but also environmental responsibility. By connecting the concept of Water Without Rain with practical design applications\, attendees will gain insight into how materials can contribute to resilience. \nNo registration required. This program has been approved for 0.5 LU | HSW by AIA CES.

SUMMARY:SFRT: The Psychology of Human Health and the Built Environment
DESCRIPTION:Please RSVP to Brad Russell via email by clicking the red “RSVP” button above and using the subject line “RSVP for August 14″ \nThe presentation will begin promptly at 12:00 PM and conclude at 1:00 PM.  \n\nThis course explores how biophilic design supports cognitive\, physiological\, and psychological well-being\, drawing on research from environmental psychology and health sciences. It examines how Daylight\, fresh air\, views\, and physical connection to nature Influence mood\, performance\, and overall occupant experience. The role of folding\, sliding\, and swing door systems is examined as architectural wall systems that support biophilic strategies through openness\, flexibility\, and indoor–outdoor continuity\, contributing to healthier residential and commercial environments. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nExamine the concept of biophilic design and its relation to cognitive\, physiological\, and psychological well-being.\nAssess the impact of mood on well-being and the ways in which biophilic design can influence mood.\nAnalyze the role door systems play in biophilic design and their impact on well-being.\nEvaluate a case study as it relates to door systems and biophilic design.\n\n1.0 LU | HSW \n  \nPresented by BOK Modern
