SUMMARY:Fair Park Tram Tour
DESCRIPTION:Fair Park\, a celebration of art\, architecture\, and industry\, is a cultural and historic gem in the heart of Dallas. Join us for a motorized tour of the park while we fill you in on its amazing past and talk about its exciting future. \nArchitecturally\, Fair Park is one of the world’s largest collections of Art Deco buildings with a unique design approach that Chief Architect George Dahl described as “Texanic.” Integral to the buildings and the grounds are numerous works by renowned artists that celebrate the history and achievements of Texas during the first 100 years of independence. First established for the Dallas State Fair in 1886\, Fair Park was transformed in 1936 for the Texas Centennial Exposition. It is one of Dallas’ greatest cultural assets\, hosting events year-round and exhibitions and serving as home to numerous cultural institutions. In 1986\, it was recognized as a National Historic Landmark. \nIn partnership with Fair Park First\, the Dallas Architecture and Design Exchange presents hour-long lunchtime tram tours on the third Wednesday of the month at several times throughout the year. Tickets are $10 for general admission\, and $5 for students and seniors. \nThe tour begins at noon at the Parry Street entrance gate adjacent to the DART stop. Seats are limited – reserve your seat in advance. \nNOTE: The duration of the tour ranges from 1.5 to 2 hours. There is some walking (1/4 of a mile or less) to allow participants to get up close to some of the artwork. Please note any mobility challenges at the time of registration so that the tour route can be adjusted to accommodate all guests.

SUMMARY:SFRT: Understanding Mortarless Stone Veneer & Other Stone Veneer Products
DESCRIPTION:Please RSVP to Brad Russell via email by clicking the red “RSVP” button above and using the subject line “RSVP for June 13th”. Presentation by Westlake Royal Building Products \nProgram Description: While natural stone veneer has a timeless popularity in commercial and residential applications\, its cost\, weight\, and availability can make it prohibitive for some projects. Natural-looking manufactured stone veneer alleviates those concerns but still requires time and experience in mortared stone installation. This course explores these options and then introduces the latest manufactured stone product\, a panelized\, mortarless veneer that installs with the ease\, speed\, and all-weather flexibility of siding. Application examples and case studies present the many options that offer a real stone aesthetic without the time\, skill\, and constraints required for mortared applications. \nLearning Objectives:  \n\nIdentifying types of stone veneer products\nUnderstanding the attributes of manufactured stone veneer\nDefining the mortarless stone veneer category\nRecognizing key applications and installation guidelines\n\n1.0 LU | HSW Credit \n  \nThe presentation will begin promptly at 12:00 PM and conclude at 1:00 PM. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Kaleidoscope Series: Advocacy and Architecture
DESCRIPTION:Architects are advocates\, whether we realize that or not. Every day we advocate for our clients by working with contractors and consultants to ensure their projects are successful. We have also become more environmentally conscious\, advocating for zero-carbon buildings\, more resilient cities\, and equitable communities. \nHowever\, when it comes to advocacy\, we are often the last ones we\, and often firm leadership\, consider. We are tasked with ensuring the health\, safety\, and welfare of the public we serve. Yet we often overlook our own. \nJoin us for a panel discussion with queer architects centered on how we can advocate for LGBTQIA+ professionals and others. We will discuss advocacy within and outside of architecture\, how to advocate for change as architects in a time when the queer community faces an increasingly hostile political environment and share resources available through AIA and other organizations.

SUMMARY:Committee on the Environment (COTE): Decentralized Water Reuse
DESCRIPTION:Decentralized Water Reuse\n  \nTexas needs smart water management to meet growing water needs while facing declining supplies. The Net Zero Water design approach is a One Water strategy that invites the urban environment to contribute to water accessibility by leveraging water reuse at the building footprint scale. Buildings of all scale and size can be equipped to capture\, store\, treat\, and reuse a variety of source waters such as air conditioning condensate\, rainwater\, and even treated wastewater to meet significant portions of their water demands while also providing an economic savings. \n  \nLearning Objectives: \n\nParticipants will learn the challenges faced by Texas’ continued growth due to rapid population expansion and strained water supplies.\nParticipants will explore how the built environment has the opportunity to participate in the water balance by emphasizing design to capture\, store\, treat\, and reuse waters sourced on site for non-drinking water needs.\nParticipants will define what factors to consider when selecting and designing onsite water systems including source water quality\, treatment requirements\, volumes\, costs\, permitting\, and operations.\nParticipants will compare impediments and opportunities for onsite water strategies to gain adoption and further provide water savings benefits to our urban cores and sprawl.\n\n1.0 LU | HSW \n  \nOur Speaker:  \nChandler Crouch\, PE \nNet Zero Water Program Lead \nTexas Water Trade \n
