SUMMARY:Fair Park Tram Tour
DESCRIPTION:Fair Park\, a celebration of art\, architecture\, and industry\, is a cultural and historic gem in the heart of Dallas. Join us for a motorized tour of the park while we fill you in on its amazing past and talk about its exciting future. \nArchitecturally\, Fair Park is one of the world’s largest collections of Art Deco buildings with a unique design approach that Chief Architect George Dahl described as “Texanic.” Integral to the buildings and the grounds are numerous works by renowned artists that celebrate the history and achievements of Texas during the first 100 years of independence. First established for the Dallas State Fair in 1886\, Fair Park was transformed in 1936 for the Texas Centennial Exposition. It is one of Dallas’ greatest cultural assets\, hosting events year-round and exhibitions and serving as home to numerous cultural institutions. In 1986\, it was recognized as a National Historic Landmark. \nIn partnership with Fair Park First\, the Dallas Architecture and Design Exchange presents hour-long lunchtime tram tours on the third Wednesday of the month at several times throughout the year. Tickets are $10 for general admission\, and $5 for students and seniors. \nThe tour begins at noon at the Parry Street entrance gate adjacent to the DART stop. Seats are limited – reserve your seat in advance. \nNOTE: The duration of the tour ranges from 1.5 to 2 hours. There is some walking (1/4 of a mile or less) to allow participants to get up close to some of the artwork. Please note any mobility challenges at the time of registration so that the tour route can be adjusted to accommodate all guests.

SUMMARY:SFRT: Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design
DESCRIPTION:CPTED for Architects (CRUX2024-002) \nCrux Technology and Security Solutions\, Inc. \nArchitects seeking to enhance the safety of their designs can benefit from the principles of CPTED\, which stands for Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design. CPTED is a comprehensive approach to crime prevention that examines how the physical environment can either create or deter opportunities for criminal activity. In this course\, we will delve into how proper use of lighting\, fencing\, traffic control\, and landscaping can help to discourage crime. By incorporating these elements into the design of a building from the outset\, we can create a safer and more productive environment. To summarize\, this course will explore how the physical environment\, as well as human behavior\, play a direct role in crime prevention. This not only affects productivity and quality of life but can also reduce the risk of exposure to criminal activity. \nLearning Objectives: \n\n\nDiscover how employing CPTED concepts throughout the building and grounds design will strengthen the three lines of defense (perimeter\, building exterior\, building interior)\, thus enhancing the overall safety and security of the building. \n\n\nUnderstand the concept of Natural Surveillance and how it is used to keep intruders under observation\, thus creating a perception of risk and deterring crime. \n\n\nUnderstand the concept of Natural Access Control and how it decreases the opportunity for crime by denying access to crime targets. \n\n\nRealize how the physical attributes of the space can express ownership. This ownership creates a sense of territorial control\, and potential criminals\, perceiving this control\, are discouraged. \n\n\n  \nPlease RSVP to Brad Russell via email by clicking the red “RSVP” button above and using the subject line “RSVP for July 18″

SUMMARY:SFRT: How Precast Builds: High Performance Sports Facilities
DESCRIPTION:How Precast Builds: High Performance Sports Facilities\n1.0 HSW/LU  \nHealth awareness and athletic competition have become increasingly more important throughout the past years. We see expansions of professional sports teams\, new extreme sports being introduced\, old facilities being rebuilt\, and growing demand for new facilities. For example\, the athletic facility market is expected to grow by 15% or more over the next couple of years. Their construction design needs to provide flexibility\, functionality\, and durability. This presentation will provide an overview of today’s high-performance athletic facilities and their designs. In addition to including recommendations to optimize designs. Topics discussed will be highlighted with case studies. \nLearning Objectives:  \n\nDiscuss the basics of athletic facility design.\nDescribe the key considerations of high-performance design relative to athletic facilities.\nDescribe the various elements used in precast concrete athletic facilities.\nExplain how to maximize the value of using precast concrete systems in athletic facility design.\n\n  \nPlease RSVP to Brad Russell via email by clicking the red “RSVP” button above and using the subject line “RSVP for August 9th” \n  \n  \nPrecast Concrete Manufacturers Association \nThe Precast Concrete Manufacturers Association\, represents New Mexico\, Oklahoma\, and Texas. Through its Partner\, Precast Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI)\, provides the latest in research\, design standards\, architectural solutions\, and educational programming. Providing technical and architectural information on steel-reinforced precast concrete offers designers the ability to create durable and attractive concrete structures.

SUMMARY:ALDP Session: Introduction to Strategy + Risk Management
DESCRIPTION:Kickoff Session/Introduction to Strategy: Playing Chess vs Checkers\nA business strategy is foundational to a company’s success. It helps leaders set organizational goals and gives companies a competitive edge. Success or failure is not only about a strong business model\, but also about external forces that shape your business. In this session\, we will kick off the series with strategic frameworks that offer ways to scan your environment and help shape your business. \nRisky Business: Understanding and Managing Risk for Architects\nThe practice of architecture necessitates taking risks. A design error can have catastrophic safety and financial implications. Business practices can lead to success or to the necessity of closing the firm’s doors. This session will explore the risks of practicing architecture and how to mitigate those risks as a leader and manager.
