Communications Specialist

The Communications Specialist provides strategic leadership for developing and executing integrated communications and marketing plans for College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs (CAPPA). Responsible for developing and managing the media strategy for internal and external stakeholders. Collaborates with the Dean, Executive Assistant (EA), and Department Directors on college and program initiatives and special events. Promotes the college brand, programs, faculty, and student achievements.

  • Leads the development, creation, and implementation of CAPPA’s marketing and communications strategy.
  • Work closely with the Dean to ensure that communications initiatives and innovations are represented through a variety of internal and external communication channels, with a focus on professional outlets, media, development, and alumni relations.
  • Develops and implements communications strategies to showcase and promote CAPPA’s accomplishments.
  • Serve as the media contact for CAPPA for both internal and external stakeholders and collaboration with UTA Media Relations and UTA Marketing, Messaging, and Engagement Department (MME).
  • Creates and implements a college alumni relations initiative, which includes college updates, event promotion, and fundraising; in collaboration with the Dean, development director, and university alumni relations.
  • Works with Marketing Coordinator on communication strategies.
  • Creates and executes social media strategy and manages the program’s online presence.
  • Creates and manages multiple college websites, including creating guidelines for making updates.
  • Creates content for social media, website, events, and recruitment materials.
  • Performs frequent graphic design, photography, videography, editing, and writing.
  • Manages promotional event materials and event planning for different departmental units.
  • Works with the department Directors to create recruitment material for prospective students.
  • Coordinates and maintains University communication initiatives with the university, other colleges, and departments on events, and program liaise with UTA Online Communication teams regarding website modernization and troubleshooting website issues.
  • Work with CAPPA Coordinator, EA, and Marketing Coordinator on the logistics for a variety of college events, including department events, fall welcome back, hooding ceremonies, donor receptions, lecture series, etc.
  • Coordinate publicity for special college events as needed.
  • Manage web-based marketing opportunities including search engine optimization and social media analytics.
  • Provides management supervises, and assigns tasks for student assistants, as it relates to communication and social media.
  • Manages production workflow, to ensure adherence to UTA communication standards across all platforms.

Requirements

  • Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Creative Suite, understanding of design elements (color, layout, visual material).
  • Solid interpersonal relationship and have the ability to work effectively with individuals from various communities and cultures.
  • Project management, event management skills.
  • Photography and photo editing, videography and video editing, social media skills, website management
  • Possess excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and quality in written products.
  • Ability to think strategically with solid written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and make decisions in a changing and dynamic environment.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
