Healthy Materials Workshop & Fair
I present and attend many presentations each year on how much time we spend indoors. You all probably know the answer but I’ll give it to you anyway – 90%!
As a product manufacturer we think about the indoor environment a lot. I’m excited to participate in the Healthy Materials Fair because indoor environmental comfort is very important to our individual and collective health.
"How do you define indoor environmental comfort?” For me, it encompasses what you see, how you feel, what you hear and what you breathe. Of course, there are a lot of details that go into each of these elements, but the basics are really about how comfortable you are in your work or living space.
One of the best ways to ensure a comfortable indoor environment is by choosing the best products. Sure, product manufacturers (me included) can tell you all about the product and why you should choose said product. However, the only way you will know exactly what is in the product is through a Health Product Declaration (HPD). An HPD is quite simply a list of chemicals used in the manufacturing of the product, similar to a food label, that designers and specifiers can read to help make the best choice possible for the client and its users.
HPDs, EPDs, Red List free… we know this is a lot of jargon AND don’t worry, while we are going to walk everyone through what these things mean, we also see the big picture. The Healthy Materials Fair is about healthy, comfortable, buildings.
See you there!
