Following a preview of current/future markets trends by Anirban Basu, a moderated panel will share their perspectives on current hot products and hot markets, plus the best opportunities in the near term.

Economic Overview

Anirban Basu is Chairman & CEO of Sage Policy Group, Inc., an economic and policy consulting firm in Baltimore, Maryland.  Mr. Basu is among the most recognizable economists, in part because of his consulting work on behalf of numerous clients, including prominent developers, bankers, brokerage houses, energy suppliers, law firms and business associations serving as the chief economist to Associated Builders and Contractors (national) and as chief economic advisor to the Construction Financial Management Association. In recent years, he has also focused upon health economics, the economics of education and economic development.  He currently lectures at Johns Hopkins University in micro-, macro-, international and urban economics.  

Mr. Basu earned his B.S. in Foreign Service at Georgetown University in 1990.  He earned his Master’s in Public Policy from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, and his Master’s in Economics from the University of Maryland, College Park.  His Juris Doctor was earned at the University of Maryland School of Law in 2003.

Kourtny Garrett, President and CEO of Downtown Dallas, Inc – Moderator
Downtown Dallas, Inc. (DDI) is a private, nonprofit organization serving as the primary advocate and champion for Downtown, ensuring that Downtown grows as a vibrant center of urban life, recognized locally and globally for the quality of its business, hospitality, entertainment, living, and cultural environments. Kourtny Garrett serves as President & CEO of Downtown Dallas, Inc. and has been dedicated to the revitalization of Downtown Dallas in various roles since 2002. With a resume that spans 15 years in the development of livable communities, Kourtny’s passion for strong and kinetic city centers carries from Dallas to abroad. Prior to her appointment to President & CEO, Kourtny has served as Downtown Dallas, Inc.’s Executive Vice President, Senior Vice President, and Director of Marketing, as well as Managing Director of the Main Street District. Her primary focus of responsibilities in these roles has included the creation of strategic marketing programs for Downtown, as well as planning, government and community relations activities, and economic development. She created the Main Street Merchants Association, and played an integral role in creating the Dallas Fashion Incubator, a stand-alone 501(c)(3) organization which houses programs to train and mentor up-and-coming designers. In addition, in 2009 Kourtny was instrumental in privatizing the management of eight Downtown parks.
