Last year, AIA Young Professionals partnered for the first time with the mayor’s Grow South initiative through the City of Dallas. They have since reported that all of the grantee projects from 2016 were actually built and completed by the neighborhoods! This has not been the case in years past, which means YP made a big impact using our design and problem solving skills to benefit these communities.

We have been invited again to help brainstorm with the 2017 grantee participants on Saturday, September 30th at The Wilson Historic District. We will be sitting down with neighborhood group representatives to help them visualize their neighborhood improvement projects, usually sign toppers, landscape projects, murals, gateway designs, etc. The projects are only $10,000 or less, but it has been so beneficial to these communities to have YP sharing our advice, feedback and experience.

Grow South really needs us as volunteers again this year! Register now and make an impact!

The GrowSouth Neighborhood Challenge was created in 2012 to award grants to neighborhood groups that present a vision, a passion and a commitment to conduct community-driven projects or programs that address specific neighborhood needs and help improve the quality of life.  In collaboration with Planning and Urban Design – Neighborhood Vitality, the Mayor’s Office seeks to ignite neighborhood community creativity and resident empowerment in the southern sector.
