AIA Membership Categories
Architect Members (AIA)
Individuals with an architectural license from a U.S. licensing authority are eligible for architect membership
Associate Members (Assoc. AIA)
Associate membership is open to individuals who meet one of the following criteria: hold a professional degree in architecture; currently work under the supervision of an architect; currently enrolled in the Architectural Experience Program (AXP, formerly IDP) and working toward licensure; or faculty member in a university program in architecture
Associate New Graduates (Assoc. AIA)
AIA National offers two membership paths for both recent NAAB and non-NAAB graduates
Associate International (Intl. Assoc. AIA)
Individuals who have an architecture license or equivalent from a non-U.S. licensing authority are eligible for International Associate membership
Emeritus Members (AIA, Assoc. AIA, or FAIA)
Emeritus applies to individuals who have been AIA members for 15 successive years and either (i) have attained the age of 70 and are retired from the profession of architecture (or from a related occupation, in the case of Associate members) or (ii) are so incapacitated as to be unable to work in the profession
Fellow Membership (FAIA)
The distinction of Fellow is reserved for registered architect members of over 10 years who the National AIA Jury of Fellows has honored for contributing notably to the advancement of the profession of architecture
Student Members
This membership is available for current students enrolled in architecture programs or programs for related professions. This membership is open to students from any American university
Allied Members
This special professional membership program is designed specifically for contractors, engineers, interior designers, technical professionals, marketing professionals, landscape architects, lawyers, real estate professionals, consultants and every professional with an interest in the built environment. Industry Allied Members of AIA Dallas have the unique opportunity to volunteer and work alongside potential clients.
