Embodied Carbon and EPDs
The embodied carbon impacts of building materials are becoming one of the primary measurements of a product’s sustainability. The use of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) is increasing where understanding the inputs and outputs of the lifecycle assessment are critical. This course will provide insight into these topics using stone wool insulation as an example, and relate them to overall durability, energy efficiency, and occupant health and comfort. These topics will be explored within the infrastructure of green building certification metrics, such as LEED.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand how to read and interpret Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) of building insulation products.
- Understand the impact and benefits of stone wool insulation in relation to energy efficiency and carbon emissions.
