Integrating Queer Perspective into the Design Studio will bring queer educators together with students and architects, highlighting their in-studio work with students as well as their research towards creating a more inclusive and equitable environment in architecture.

Panelists include Aidan Flynn, a founding member of the global Queer Educators in Architecture Network (QuEAN); Leah Wulfman, a Carrier Bag architect, educator, game designer, digital puppeteer, and occasional writer; and Jon Gould, a limited-term professor of architecture at Kennesaw State University advocating for equity, diversity, and inclusion in our built environments. The panel will be moderated by A.L. Hu, AIA, NOMA, the founder of Queeries, an ongoing community-building and design-queering initiative for and by LGBTQIA+ spatial designers, and Director of Design Initiatives at Ascendant Neighborhood Development in East Harlem, New York.

CE Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will learn best practices and policies that can be implemented to increase equity and inclusion of LGBTQIA+ students.
  • Participants will understand how architectural education and pedagogy is evolving to meet the needs of a diverse generation of students.
  • Participants will learn how the power of inclusion can help strengthen the profession and create cultures that uplift and support LGBTQIA+ people.
  • Participants will learn different approaches to design and design thinking as it pertains to LGBTQIA+ architects and designers.

LGBTQIA+ Alliance seeks to bring together members who identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ family and allies to build community, mentorship, and career opportunities.
